Key Development: Life Insurance Corporation of India launched LIC’s Bima Platinum (Plan 770) and LIC’s Jeevan Raksha (Plan 894) on its 70th anniversary. Both plans will be available from 7 September 2026 through online and offline channels.
Bima Platinum (Plan 770): It is a non-participating, non-linked individual savings-cum-protection plan offering Guaranteed Additions of ₹70 per ₹1,000 annual premium during the premium-paying term. It also provides a 70% Booster Income Benefit after five years and an annual 10% Regular Income Benefit during the payout period.
Jeevan Raksha (Plan 894): It is a non-participating, non-linked pure-risk plan providing guaranteed death benefits without bonuses or surplus participation. Entry age is 18–45 years, with maturity age up to 60 years.
Coverage: The plan offers a Basic Sum Assured of ₹5 lakh to ₹24 lakh. The amount can be selected in specified multiples of ₹50,000 or ₹1 lakh, subject to LIC’s underwriting policy.

Key Development: India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri hosted the Quad Sherpas’ Meeting in New Delhi on 3 September 2026 to review progress on Quad initiatives and prepare for the next Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Background: The Quad traces its origins to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, when the four countries coordinated humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts.

Key Development: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever agreed to double bilateral trade within five years during talks in New Delhi. India–Belgium trade stood at US$10.92 billion in 2025–26.
Major Outcomes: Both countries agreed to strengthen defence cooperation through a Letter of Intent, expand collaboration in renewable energy under a renewed MoU, and launch the India–Belgium Investment Fast-Track Mechanism to boost investments.
Background: Belgium established diplomatic relations with independent India in 1947. Bilateral economic cooperation is guided by the India–BLEU Joint Economic Commission (1997).

About DEH: The Districts as Export Hubs (DEH) initiative, launched by the Department of Commerce, aims to harness the unique strengths of every district, enabling local enterprises to access global markets and drive district-led economic growth.
Objective: It seeks to diversify India’s export base by promoting district-specific products, improving competitiveness, and integrating rural and small-town producers into global value chains.
Coverage: The initiative now covers more than 770 districts across the country, significantly expanding its reach.
Background: DEH builds on the success of the One District One Product (ODOP) programme, which began in Uttar Pradesh in 2018 with Moradabad’s brass industry before being scaled nationally.
Significance: The initiative supports India’s rising exports, which reached US$863.11 billion (estimated) in 2025–26, by unlocking untapped regional export potential.

Key Development: Union Minister Jitendra Singh launched BIO-NIVESH, a strategic platform to strengthen collaboration between biotechnology innovators and investors and increase private investment in India’s biotechnology sector.
Objective: The initiative aims to help biotechnology innovations move from research and startups to industry adoption, commercialisation, large-scale deployment and wider market access, accelerating biotechnology-led growth.
Key Features: BIO-NIVESH serves as a two-way engagement platform, bringing together innovators, investors, industry and government to facilitate funding, partnerships and technology transfer rather than merely connecting startups with investors.

Key Development: Russia successfully test-fired the RS-24 Yars mobile intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome to the Kura test range in Kamchatka, covering over 6,700 km as part of a Strategic Missile Forces exercise.
Purpose: The exercise validated the missile’s tactical, technical and flight characteristics, while rehearsing the deployment, preparation and launch of a road-mobile missile system. Russia stated that all mission objectives were achieved successfully.
About RS-24 Yars: The RS-24 Yars is a solid-fuel, three-stage ICBM deployed in both mobile and silo-based configurations to strengthen Russia’s land-based nuclear deterrent.
Key Features: Its road-mobile launchers enhance survivability by operating from dispersed locations, while its Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicles (MIRVs) enable a single missile to strike multiple targets simultaneously.

Teachers’ Day: India observes Teachers’ Day every year on 5 September to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, an eminent philosopher, educationist and India’s second President.
About Dr. Radhakrishnan: Born on 5 September 1888 in Tamil Nadu, he served as India’s Ambassador to the Soviet Union (1949–1952), first Vice President (1952–1962) and second President (1962–1967). He played a key role in promoting Indian philosophy globally.
Significance: When his students wished to celebrate his birthday, Dr. Radhakrishnan suggested dedicating the day to teachers instead. Since then, 5 September has been observed as Teachers’ Day to honour the invaluable contribution of educators to society and nation-building.
