Tamil Nadu plans to establish an Olympic City and a Motor Sports City to strengthen sports infrastructure, develop athletes and promote sports-related economic activities.
Tamil Nadu Olympic City
The Olympic City will be developed through the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT). It aims to help the state produce athletes capable of winning more medals at the Olympics and other international competitions.
The complex will include:
- International-standard sports arenas
- Modern sports equipment
- A High Performance Training Centre
- Sports science and sports medicine centres
- Accommodation for athletes and coaches
- Facilities for national and international sporting events
SDAT will also establish an SDAT Talent Research Wing (TRW) and Olympic Centres of Excellence at 10 locations across Tamil Nadu to identify and train promising sportspersons.
Tamil Nadu Motor Sports City
The proposed Motor Sports City will feature a modern motorsports complex capable of hosting Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula 4 races.
It will also support:
- Training and development of young motorsport talent
- Identification of promising racers
- Attraction of motor-racing and automobile manufacturing companies
The project is expected to create opportunities in tourism, employment, automobile-related industries and other supporting economic activities.
