UAE Launches Blue Visa for Leaders in Environmental Sustainability

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced the first phase of its Blue Visa program, a 10-year residency initiative aimed at individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability. The program was launched by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP), during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai.

Key Highlights

Objective & Alignment:

  • The Blue Visa is part of the UAE’s broader sustainability initiatives, aligning with the national goal of achieving Net Zero by 2025.
  • It enhances the UAE’s existing residency programs by specifically targeting leaders in environmental sustainability.

Residency Program Expansion:

  • The Blue Visa builds on the success of the Golden Visa (10-year residency for investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, outstanding students, and humanitarian pioneers) and Green Visa (5-year residency for skilled professionals, freelancers, investors, and entrepreneurs).

Eligibility & Initial Recipients

In its initial phase, 20 sustainability leaders and innovators will be granted the Blue Visa.

Eligible candidates include:

  • Members of international organizations and companies involved in sustainability.
  • Associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Global award winners in environmental work.
  • Distinguished activists and researchers in sustainability.

The visa applies to individuals supporting environmental efforts both within and outside the UAE.

Applicants can either apply directly through ICP or be nominated by UAE authorities.
