India achieved a record-high defence export figure of ₹23,622 crore in the financial year 2024–25. The country registered a 12.04% growth over the previous fiscal, as per data released by Union Ministry of Defence (MoD). This milestone reflects India’s growing capability in indigenous defence manufacturing and increasing global demand for Indian-made defence systems.

Net Increase: Total Defence Exports (FY 2024–25): ₹23,622 crore, Compared to ₹21,083 crore in FY 2023–24 (12.04% growth)
Sector-wise Contributions:
- Private Sector: ₹15,233 crore (almost unchanged from ₹15,209 crore in FY24)
- Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs): ₹8,389 crore (up from ₹5,874 crore in FY24) — growth of 42.85%
Export Authorisations:
- 1,762 export authorisations issued in FY25 (vs 1,507 in FY24) — growth of 16.92%
- Number of exporters increased by 17.4% over previous fiscal
Major Factors Behind Export Growth
Policy Reforms by the Ministry of Defence:
- Simplified industrial licensing procedures
- Parts and components removed from licensing regime
- Extension of license validity
- Simplified SOP for Export Authorisation
- A dedicated online portal for export authorisation application and processing
Wider Global Outreach:
- India exported a range of defence items (arms, ammunition, sub-systems, parts/components) to around 80 countries
- Reflects rising trust in Indian defence products on the global stage
Focus on Self-Reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat):
- India has transitioned from being a heavily import-dependent defence market to becoming a net exporter in key segments
- Emphasis on indigenous development, co-production, and innovation
