Assam Launches Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan

Assam Government launched Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMMUA). This flagship initiative aims to empower women entrepreneurs across state. This major entrepreneurship support scheme is biggest of its kind, designed to foster financial independence and economic uplift among women.

Key Features of MMMUA

Target Beneficiaries: The scheme is aimed at benefiting around 30 lakh women across Assam.

Phased Rollout: The initiative will be implemented in phases across state.

Three-Stage Financial Assistance: A structured three-stage financial assistance model provides a sustainable framework for business growth.

  • Stage 1: Each eligible woman receives ₹10,000 as seed capital to boost self-employment opportunities.
  • Stage 2: In the second year, upon meaningful utilization of the seed capital. Each beneficiary is entitled to an additional ₹25,000. This amount is split equally: ₹12,500 provided as Government support and ₹12,500 as a state grant loan at a nominal interest rate.
  • Stage 3: In the third year, women who have successfully progressed in their business under the scheme will receive ₹50,000 after fulfilling the conditions set in the second year.

Impact on SHG Members: With the launch, approximately 27,04,161 Self-Help Group (SHG) members stand to benefit, marking a significant step towards women’s financial independence.

Broader Objectives:

Micro-Level Entrepreneurship: Scheme is designed to catalyse micro-level entrepreneurship. It ensures that women achieve financial independence and contribute to state’s economic growth.

Economic Upliftment: Initiative aims to create new income opportunities and foster sustainable business practices among women.

Other Initiatives by Assam Government for Women

Direct Financial Support: Government has granted ₹1,090 crore to 2.17 lakh women SHGs under various schemes.

E-commerce Platform: An e-commerce platform has been developed and strengthened to assist women in their entrepreneurial ventures.

Educational and Livelihood Support: Free admissions and schooling: Ensuring access to quality education.

Orunodoi Scheme:

  • Provides livelihood support by transferring ₹1,250 each month to women in 37.2 lakh families with an annual income of less than ₹2 lakh.
  • The Orunodoi scheme costs the State Government ₹467 crore per month.

Holistic Development: Coupled with other state initiatives focused on education, livelihood support, and digital empowerment, MMMUA contributes to a comprehensive approach towards reducing economic inequalities and enhancing social well-being.
