Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the Blockchain India Challenge to promote blockchain-based digital governance solutions. The initiative is being implemented by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) with support from MeitY.
About Blockchain India Challenge
Objective
It is a national initiative aimed at:
- Encouraging Indian startups to develop blockchain-based governance solutions
- Promoting permissioned blockchain systems for government use
- Ensuring:
- Regulatory control
- Security
- Trust
- Auditability
- Tamper-proof record-keeping
The focus is on strengthening transparency and efficiency in public service delivery.
Target Participants
- Startups recognized by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)
- Collaboration with Government Departments
Selected startups will pilot real-world solutions in partnership with public authorities.
Focus Areas
The Challenge aims to address governance and service delivery challenges in domains such as:
- E-procurement
- Supply chain management
- Public Distribution System (PDS)
- Education
- Healthcare
- Agriculture
- Power sector
- Internet of Things (IoT)
- Land records
- Environment & sustainability
These domains are indicative; startups may propose innovative solutions beyond these sectors.
Funding & Implementation
- 10 impactful blockchain-based use cases will be selected.
- Solutions will be developed under 10 different categories.
- Selected startups will receive stage-wise funding support.
- Projects will be implemented in collaboration with concerned Government Departments.
