Ministry of Jal Shakti launched Sujal Gaon ID, a unique digital identity assigned to rural piped drinking water supply schemes across India. This initiative is a key part of the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 (JJM 2.0) aimed at creating a “Sujalam Bharat“. It assigns a unique code to each village’s water supply system, allowing mapping of infrastructure, water source and service area.
What is Sujal Gaon ID?
- It is a scheme‑based unique digital identifier that enables complete digital mapping of rural piped water supply assets.
- Digital Mapping: It serves as a tool for the digital mapping of rural water infrastructure, enabling accurate identification of water sources and household connections.
- Integration with Sujalam Bharat: Sujal Gaon ID’s is linked to Sujalam Bharat ID,a national platform for rural water governance.
- Each Sujalam Bharat ID integrates the scheme’s infrastructure ID and service area ID, creating a comprehensive digital footprint of rural water service delivery.
- Significance: For the first time in the country, every rural drinking water scheme is being assigned a digital identity, bringing the rural water supply system onto a unified national platform.
- Funding Linkage: Central Government has mandated that states must link all their rural water schemes to the Sujal Gaon ID module to receive funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
- Implementation: So far, 64 lakh Sujal Gaon IDsacross 31 States/ UTs have been created, linked to 67,000 Sujalam Bharat IDs.
