Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited (AIC) has launched Krishi Sakhi Initiative to empower women farmers and work towards achieving inclusive growth. Launched in alignment with the recognition of year 2026 as the ‘International Year of the Woman Farmer’ by the United Nations through Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
What is Krishi Sakhi Initiative?
It is a nationwide program aimed at empowering women farmers through awareness, participation, and capacity building in agriculture and crop insurance.
Objective: It aims to
- Enhance women’s participation in agriculture and insurance
- Promote inclusive and gender-sensitiveagricultural development
- Recognize women’s role in strengthening India’s farm sector
Key Features:
- Month-wise Awareness Campaigns: Structured activities (videos, walkathons, workshops) conducted throughout 2026.
- Capacity Building & Workshops: Ground-level training for women farmers on crop insurance schemes and benefits.
- Social & Behavioral Outreach: Campaigns on sanitation, hygiene, and rural awareness targeting women farmers.
Implementation Roadmap (2026)
AIC has rolled out a month-wise engagement plan to ensure sustained outreach:
- January: Digital launch and awareness push via social media platforms.
- February: A symbolic Walkathon organized under the hashtag #AICforHer to show solidarity with women farmers.
- March: Grassroots-level workshops and training sessions focused on crop insurance benefits and claim processes.
- Future Activities: Scheduled activities include publishing success stories and running rural campaigns on sanitation, hygiene, and health.
