Keel Laying of Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs)

The keel laying ceremony of Yard 16402 & 16403—the second and third ships of six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs)—was held at M/s YMPL, Ratnagiri. This marks an important milestone in strengthening the capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard.

What are Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs)?

The NGOPVs are advanced maritime patrol ships designed to enhance India’s coastal security and maritime surveillance capabilities.

The ships are indigenously designed, developed, and constructed. They are being built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).  Contract for six NGOPVs was signed in 2023. They are being procured by ICG under Buy (Indian – IDDM) viz. Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured Category.

  • Crew Capacity: 11 officers and 110 personnel

Advanced Technological Features

The vessels will be equipped with state-of-the-art systems and modern technologies, including:

  • AI-based Predictive Maintenance Systems
  • Remote Piloted Drones
  • Integrated Bridge System (IBS)
  • Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS)

These features will enhance operational efficiency, real-time monitoring, and mission readiness.
