The Government of Punjab has launched the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, a major women-centric social welfare scheme, approved in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Bhagwant Mann.

Objective and Need
- The scheme aims to ensure financial independence and dignity for women, especially those from economically vulnerable households.
- Despite progress in social indicators, many women in Punjab lack independent financial security, making direct income support essential for empowerment.
Key Features of Scheme
Direct Financial Assistance
- Implemented via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
- Eligible women receive monthly cash benefits directly into bank accounts, ensuring transparency and eliminating leakages.
Inclusive Coverage
- Covers 97% of women, making it one of the largest women-centric schemes in India
- No cap on number of beneficiaries per family
- Existing social security pensioners continue to receive pensions in addition to benefits
- Budget allocation: ₹9,300 crore (FY 2026–27)
- Provides ₹1000 per month to all women and ₹1500 per month to Scheduled Caste women
Financial Empowerment
The scheme promotes:
- Savings and financial literacy
- Thrift and small investments
- Greater decision-making power and dignity
Eligibility Criteria
Women eligible under the scheme must:
- Be 18 years or above
- Be a registered voter in Punjab
- Possess Aadhaar card reflecting Punjab residency
- Hold a valid Voter ID issued by Election Commission of India
Implementation Strategy
The government will ensure last-mile delivery through:
- Outreach and awareness campaigns
- Assistance in documentation and registration
- Support for bank account activation, especially in rural areas
