Career Cards launched for Children with Special Needs

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education, launched Career Cards for Children with Special Needs (CwSN). It represents a significant step towards equitable and inclusive career guidance for all learners across India.

This initiative is rooted in National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 both emphasising enabling every learner, including CwSN, to explore diverse educational and occupational pathways.

Career Cards for Children with Special Needs (CwSN)

Career Cards have been developed through the technical collaboration and field insights of UNICEF India, NCERT including the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET) and Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), Pratham Education Foundation, and National Institutes for Disabilities under Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD).

What Do the Career Cards Offer?

Each card provides:

  • Concise information on roles and responsibilities
  • Required qualifications for various careers
  • Potential career pathways aligned with students’ interests
  • A resource tool for teachers and counsellors to guide students in academic and professional planning
Key Details
  • Cards are now available in Braille format ensuring accessibility for visually impaired students.
  • Builds upon the earlier NCERT Career Guide Book containing 500 Career Cards developed for general students in collaboration with UNICEF.
