India’s primary regulatory authority Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has launched Mission Jagrook. It was launched by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during SEBI’s 38th Foundation Day celebrations in Mumbai.
Mission Jagrook is a nationwide investor awareness campaign aims at protecting retail investors from misinformation, fraud, and manipulative financial content, particularly in regional language digital spaces.
About Mission Jagrook
- Objective: To empower retail investors to identify fraudulent investment schemes, deepfake videos, and unregistered “fin-influencers” before investing their money.
- Focus Area: The initiative highlights the risks associated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital content, particularly through fake investment videos circulating on social media.
- Target Audience: The campaign focuses on spreading awareness in regional languages to reach investors beyond the urban, English-speaking population.
