World Horse Day is observed every year on 11 July to celebrate the enduring relationship between horses and humans and to recognize the vital role horses continue to play in culture, agriculture, transportation, sports, therapy, and livelihoods across the world.
Established by the United Nations following an initiative by Mongolia, the observance also promotes horse welfare, conservation of equine breeds, and responsible care. Mongolia spearheaded the initiative as horses are deeply embedded in its culture, and the country is known for having more horses than people.

Background
- On 3 June 2025, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution 79/291, officially declaring 11 July as World Horse Day.
- The resolution urges: Civil society, Governments, Businesses, Educational institutions, Individuals
- to celebrate the contributions of horses and address the challenges affecting their welfare in the modern world.
