Army launches DIME platform to modernise logistics management

Indian Army launched a pan-Army digital logistics platform named Depot Integration Management Edition (DIME) to modernise its logistics and supply-chain management. The platform is aimed at shortening logistics cycles, drastically reducing paperwork, and enabling near real-time visibility of assets across the entire force.

Depot Integration Management Edition (DIME)

What is DIME?

DIME is a centralised, end-to-end digital logistics management system that integrates data from Army depots, formations and field units, enabling seamless tracking and management of logistics assets from the unit level up to Army Headquarters.

Objectives of DIME
  • Provide end-to-end visibility of logistics assets
  • Enable near real-time tracking of inventory and supply movement
  • Reduce paperwork and manual, fragmented processes
  • Support data-driven, technology-enabled decision-making
  • Strengthen operational readiness and supply-chain resilience
Functional Reach and Scope
  • Covers all Army depots, formations and units
  • Tracks:
    • Inventory availability
    • Movement of supplies
    • Overall logistics preparedness
  • Supports commanders at tactical, operational and strategic levels

This represents a major shift from manual and siloed logistics systems to a unified, digital logistics architecture.

Collaborative Development
  • Developed jointly by:
    • Indian Army
    • Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics
  • Introduces standardised digital workflows across the logistics ecosystem
  • Enhances speed, accuracy, transparency and accountability

Key Features of DIME

  • Real-time asset tracking from unit to Army HQ
  • Integrated dashboards for commanders
  • Exception-based alerts for shortages and disruptions
  • Predictive stock analytics for proactive planning
  • Unified digital records, replacing manual files

Efficiency Gains

  • Paperwork reduction: ~70%
  • Logistics cycle time reduction: ~one-third
  • Faster resource redistribution
  • Early identification of potential shortages

Operational Significance

  • Enhances situational awareness of logistics assets
  • Enables faster mobilisation and sustained operations
  • Improves readiness in both peacetime and conflict
  • Strengthens supply-chain resilience across diverse terrains
  • Aligns with the Army’s broader push for digital transformation of core military functions

Why DIME Matters?

  • Marks a shift towards data-centric military logistics
  • Improves institutional efficiency and accountability
  • Supports network-centric warfare by ensuring reliable logistics support
  • Acts as a force multiplier by enabling informed, timely decisions

Why Logistics Modernisation Matters

  • Logistics is the backbone of military operations
  • Efficient supply chains ensure timely availability of ammunition, spares, and equipment
  • Digital systems improve transparency, accountability, and decision-making
