  • It will enable real-time surveillance, helping monitor illegal entry, floods, and mining accidents.

Development & Partnerships:

  • Assam government is collaborating with IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion & Authorisation Center) and ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) to develop the satellite.
  • The anticipated cost of the geostationary satellite is estimated to be ₹450-500 crore.

Strategic Benefits:

  • Faster data access for critical socio-economic projects.
  • Reduced dependency on external satellites, ensuring quicker response times during disasters.
  • Improved border security with real-time monitoring to prevent illegal activities.
  • By having its own satellite, Assam can collect crucial data for implementing socio-economic projects and avoid delays experienced in the past, such as the 45-day data lag following the Umrangso mining accident.

ASSAMSAT is expected to transform state administration, ensuring better governance and security through advanced space technology.
