AWBI announces Prani Mitra and Jeev Daya Award

The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has announced the Prani Mitra and Jeev Daya Award Ceremony to recognize individuals and organizations for their exceptional contributions to animal welfare and protection. This initiative of AWBI aims to promote awareness and inspire collective efforts in fostering a more humane and compassionate society for animals.

The awards will be presented under two major categories:

  • Prani Mitra Award (Five sub-categories):
    • Advocacy (Individual)
    • Innovative Idea (Individual)
    • Lifetime Animal Service (Individual)
    • Animal Welfare Organizations (Two awards)
    • Corporate, PSUs, Government Bodies, or Co-operatives (Two awards)
  • Jeev Daya Award (Three sub-categories):
    • Individual
    • Animal Welfare Organization
    • Schools, Institutions, Teachers, or Children

About Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI)

  • Established: 1962 under Section 4 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
  • Purpose: Advises the Government of India on animal welfare laws and promotes animal protection measures.
  • Headquarters: Ballabhgarh, Haryana.
  • Founder: It was started under the stewardship of well-known humanitarian Rukmini Devi Arundale.
  • Functions under: Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
  • Composition: 28 members, including 6 Members of Parliament (2 from Rajya Sabha and 4 from Lok Sabha). They have tenure of 3 years.
