BSF Launches AI & GIS-Powered Command Centre

Border Security Force (BSF) launched a new command and control system powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Geographic Information System (GIS), named Decision Support System (DSS).

  • Location: BSF Headquarters, New Delhi.
  • Purpose: To strengthen decision-making and operational planning for safeguarding India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Key Features of  Decision Support System (DSS)

Enhanced Decision-Making:

  • Role-based dashboards for commanders → informed planning & execution of border operations.

Integration:

  • GIS platform + legacy operations.
  • Incident database + live sensor feeds.
  • Provides Complete Operating Picture (COP) for commanders.

Operational Benefits:

  • Monitoring of real-time data.
  • Predictive trend analysis for smuggling hotspots & infiltration routes.
  • AI-ML based analysis for resource allocation & planning.

Future Expansion:

  • Integration with Electronic Border Solutions & other BSF command centres.
  • Integration with GIS platforms of other security forces.
  • Next phase: data from OSINT (Open Source Intelligence), Big Data, IMD.

  • Guards ~6,386 km land borders with Pakistan (3,323 km) & Bangladesh (4,096 km).
