- Authority: Presiding Officer (Speaker in case Lok Sabha and Chairman in case of Rajya Sabha) announces adjournment. The President then prorogues the House under Article 85 of the Constitution.

- Bills: Pending bills in the same House remain active and are carried forward to the next session.
- Other Business: Notices for questions, motions, and resolutions lapse and must be re-submitted unless otherwise provided.
