India’s First LPG ATM Launched in Haryana
- India’s first LPG ATM (Insta LPG machine) has been launched in Gurgaon at Central Park Flower Valley, Sohna. This smart vending system enables quick, automated, and contactless distribution of LPG cylinders within 2–3 minutes, improving convenience for consumers.
- The machine dispenses composite LPG cylinders, which are lighter (around 15 kg), safer, and easier to handle compared to traditional iron cylinders (~31 kg).
- These cylinders also have a transparent body, allowing users to monitor gas levels.
- The initiative enhances last-mile delivery, efficiency, and accessibility, especially during supply constraints, marking a step towards technology-driven fuel distribution systems in India.

India–Indonesia Partners for Prambanan Temple Restoration
- India and Indonesia have partnered for the restoration of the Prambanan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The collaboration involves Indonesia’s Culture Minister Fadli Zon and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
- Built in the 9th century, Prambanan is one of Southeast Asia’s largest Hindu temple complexes, dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma.
- The restoration will adopt an ecosystem-level approach, including nearby sites like Sewu and Plaosan temples, reflecting a blend of Hindu and Buddhist traditions. The initiative strengthens cultural diplomacy and heritage conservation cooperation between the two nations.

Indian Army Conducts Exercise Amogh Jwala
- The Indian Army conducted Exercise Amogh Jwala at the Babina Field Firing Range under its Southern Command. The 13-day exercise (March 6–18, 2026) focused on high-tempo mechanised warfare in a multi-domain operational environment.

- It showcased the integrated use of Apache attack helicopters, fighter aircraft, drones, counter-drone systems, and network-enabled battlefield technologies.
- The exercise validated the Army’s capability to conduct technology-driven operations, enhancing coordination between different combat arms.

India to Host World Indoor Athletics Championships 2028
- India will host the World Indoor Athletics Championships 2028 for the first time at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. The hosting rights were awarded by World Athletics during its Council meeting in Torun.
- This will be the 22nd edition of the biennial indoor track and field event, first held in 1985 (Paris). India becomes the fourth Asian country to host the event after Japan, Qatar, and China.
- The development highlights India’s rising stature in global athletics and strengthens its position as a major host of international sporting events.

Chapchar Kut: Mizoram’s Spring Festival
- Chapchar Kut is the most important spring festival of Mizoram, celebrated annually in March after the completion of jhum cultivation clearing. It marks a period of relaxation and joy following the strenuous agricultural activity.
- The festival showcases rich Mizo culture through traditional dances, music, crafts, and cuisine, bringing communities together in celebration.
- The 2026 theme, “Zo nun ze mawi – Inremna” (Mizo Ethics – Reconciliation), emphasises harmony and cultural values.
- The event was led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who served as the “Kut Pa” (Father of the festival). Chapchar Kut reflects the agro-cultural traditions and unity of the Mizo people.

World Water Day: 22 March
- World Water Day is observed annually on March 22 by the United Nations to highlight the importance of freshwater and its sustainable management. First celebrated in 1993, the day focuses on issues related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), aligned with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
- The 2026 theme: “Water and Gender: Where water flows, equality grows,” emphasises the role of safe water and sanitation in achieving gender equality (SDG 5).
- The event is coordinated by UN Water, which also releases the UN World Water Development Report (WWDR), providing insights into global water challenges and policy priorities.
N. Chandrasekaran Conferred UK Honorary Knighthood
- Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, has been conferred an Honorary Knighthood by the United Kingdom for his contributions to strengthening UK–India business relations. He received the “The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Civil Division)” (honorary DBE/KBE).
- The award recognises outstanding contributions to public life, business, and international relations. Under his leadership, Tata Group comprising over 100 companies with revenues exceeding $100 billion has significantly expanded its global footprint.

Shaheed Diwas: 23 March
- Shaheed Diwas is observed annually on March 23 in India to honour the sacrifices of freedom fighters, especially Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru, who were executed in 1931.
- Why Celebrate? The day commemorates their role in the Lahore Conspiracy Case, linked to the killing of British officer J.P. Saunders in retaliation for the death of Lala Lajpat Rai during protests against the Simon Commission.

- Kaveh Madani, Research Professor at the City College of New York and Director at the United Nations University Institute for Water Environment and Health, has been awarded the Stockholm Water Prize 2026.

- At 44 years, he is the youngest laureate, as well as the first UN official and former politician to receive this honour.

Bhumika Shrestha Becomes Nepal’s First Transgender Woman MP
- Bhumika Shrestha has made history by becoming Nepal’s first transgender woman Member of Parliament, marking a major milestone for inclusivity and LGBTQ rights in South Asia.
- She assumed office on March 16, 2026, under the proportional representation system, representing the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
