Dr. Mayank Sharma, a 1989-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), has officially taken over as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA).
About Dr. Mayank Sharma
Vast Experience in Government Service:
- Served in various key roles in the Defence Accounts Department and Government of India.
- Held prominent positions in the Cabinet Secretariat.
International Representation:
Represented India as Alternate Permanent Representative at the following UN organizations:
- United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
- UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
- United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL)
Worked with the International Anti-Corruption Academy and Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.
As Head of the Consular Division at the Indian Embassy in Vienna, he handled all consular affairs and managed high-level Indian delegations at UNODC.
About the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA)
Role & Responsibilities:
- CGDA oversees the Defence Accounts Department (DAD), which manages the financial administration of the Indian Armed Forces and defence-related organizations.
- Functions under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
- Acts as the cadre controlling authority of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS).
Historical Significance:
- One of the oldest financial departments under the Government of India.
- Traces its roots back to 1750, when the first military paymaster was appointed under the East India Company.
