Named after legendary Indian physicist Dr. Satyendra Nath Bose, newly inaugurated facility aims to serve as an advanced research and training hub in nuclear science and technology.

Significance:

  1. Advanced Research Hub: The building is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories to enhance research in critical areas, including:
    • Nuclear security and safety
    • Reactor technology and radiation safety
    • Nuclear material characterization
    • Radioisotope applications
  2. Capacity Building: It will provide training for scientists, engineers, and policymakers, enhancing the pool of skilled professionals in nuclear research and technology.
  3. Global Collaboration: The facility is expected to strengthen India’s leadership in nuclear energy research and foster international partnerships.
  4. Sustainable Development: The centre will contribute to low-carbon energy solutions and promote nuclear technology applications in healthcare, agriculture, and industry.

Six-Month Certificate Course on Nuclear Engineering:

As part of GCNEP’s capacity-building initiatives, the Certificate Course on Nuclear Engineering aims to create a new generation of nuclear professionals.

Key Focus Areas of Course:

  • Reactor physics
  • Nuclear fuel cycle
  • Radiological safety and nuclear safeguards
  • Emerging applications of nuclear technology

Global Participation: The course will be open to 40 international and 10 national participants from GCNEP signatory nations, promoting cross-border knowledge sharing and collaboration.

About GCNEP

Established in 2010 near Bahadurgarh, Haryana, the Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP) is the sixth R&D unit under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). It aims to strengthen India’s global engagement in peaceful nuclear research and build capacity in cutting-edge nuclear technologies.

GCNEP’s Role in Nuclear Research and Development:

As a responsible nuclear power, India has been advancing its nuclear infrastructure to contribute to global nuclear partnerships. GCNEP plays a pivotal role in areas such as:

  1. Nuclear Security and Safety: Ensuring the safe handling, storage, and transport of nuclear materials.
  2. Radiological Applications: Promoting the peaceful use of nuclear technology in medicine, agriculture, and industrial applications.
  3. Nuclear Non-Proliferation: Strengthening measures to prevent the misuse of nuclear materials and ensure adherence to global non-proliferation norms.
  4. Capacity Development: Training Indian and international professionals in nuclear science and technology, thereby fostering a well-equipped global workforce.
