Government Launches Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan

Centre Government launched a 15-day nationwide campaign titled ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’, from 29 May to 12 June 2025, to promote modern farming practices, sustainable agriculture, and farmer outreach.

Objectives of VKSA

  • Translate PM’s vision of “Lab to Land”
  • Raise awareness about modern agri-technologies and new seed varieties
  • Promote sustainable farming and climate-resilient agriculture
  • Increase productivity, reduce costs, and enhance farmer income
  • Encourage adoption of natural farming and post-harvest practices
  • Disseminate knowledge of central and state agriculture schemes
  • Promote Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), value-addition, and collective marketing

Soil Health and Crop Selection

  • Promote use of Soil Health Cards
  • Encourage balanced fertilizer application

Climate Resilience

  • Train farmers to select climate-resilient crops
  • Promote mixed farming, water conservation, and sustainable inputs

Sustainable Techniques

  • Adoption of natural farming, IPM, biological control, neem-based pesticides, pheromone traps
  • Reduce use of harmful agricultural chemicals

Post-Harvest Management

  • Highlight 30–40% post-harvest losses in vegetables
  • Promote:
    • Zero-energy cool chambers
    • Improved packaging and transportation

Vegetable Research & Nutrition

  • Guidance on early-maturing, disease-resistant, and nutritious crop varieties
  • Promotion of nutrition gardens and kitchen gardens

Farmer Empowerment

  • Direct outreach by Union Agriculture Minister across 20 states
  • Encourage grassroots feedback to guide future research

Schemes & Institutional Support

  • Awareness of Govt Schemes: e.g., Operation Greens, PM-KISAN, PMFBY, etc.
  • Support through FPOs: Strengthen collective marketing and improve price realization
  • Extension services to bring new research and innovations to farmer fields
