GRSE Delivers Three Frontline Warships to Indian Navy

In a major boost to India’s indigenous defence manufacturing, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has delivered three frontline naval platforms- INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray to the Indian Navy. 

This milestone aligns with the Government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, showcasing India’s growing capability in domestic warship design and construction. The simultaneous delivery reflects enhanced production capacity, operational efficiency, and India’s push towards self-reliance in defence.

  • 1 Project 17A stealth frigate
  • 4 ASW shallow water crafts
  • 4 Next-Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels
  • 30 additional vessels (13 for export)
  • Likely contract for 5 Next Generation Corvettes

INS Dunagiri (Project 17A Stealth Frigate)

INS Dunagiri is the second advanced guided-missile stealth frigate under Project 17A.

  • Length: 149 m | Displacement: 6,670 tonnes
  • Equipped with BrahMos cruise missiles, AESA radar, integrated combat system
  • Powered by combined diesel and gas turbine (CODAG) system
  • Capable of multi-dimensional warfare (air, surface, sub-surface)
  • Represents a major advancement in indigenous stealth warship design.

INS Sanshodhak (Survey Vessel – Large)

INS Sanshodhak is the fourth and final vessel in its class, enhancing hydrographic capabilities.

  • Length: 110 m
  • Functions:
    • Coastal and deep-sea surveys
    • Oceanographic and geophysical data collection
    • Supports helicopter operations & HADR missions
  • Can perform limited combat roles
  • Crucial for navigation safety, maritime mapping, and defence planning.

INS Agray (ASW Shallow Water Craft)

INS Agray is designed for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) in coastal areas.

  • Length: 77.6 m
  • Indigenous content: ~88%
  • Equipped with:
    • Lightweight torpedoes
    • ASW rockets
    • 30 mm naval gun
  • Features shallow draught & waterjet propulsion for high manoeuvrability
  • Specialised for littoral (near-shore) defence operations.
