Union Home and Cooperation Minister virtually inaugurated National Improvised Explosive Device Data Management System (NIDMS) at National Security Guard (NSG) garrison in Manesar. Described as a “next-generation shield against terrorism”, NIDMS marks a major upgrade in India’s counter-IED and internal security architecture.
National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) is a secure, AI-enabled national digital platform hosted by the NSG, providing a pan-India repository of IED and blast data since 1999 to strengthen counter-terror investigations and prosecutions.
What is National IED Data Management System (NIDMS)?
- NIDMS is a secure national digital platform for storing, standardising and analysing IED and bomb-blast related data in India since 1999.
- It provides single-click, real-time access to investigators and security agencies across the country.
- Designed as a two-way platform:
- Agencies can upload fresh blast data
- And access historical cases simultaneously.
Objective
To establish “One Nation, One IED Data Repository”, enabling:
- Faster and scientific investigation of terror incidents
- Identification of patterns, signatures and linkages between attacks
- Support for predictive, AI-driven counter-terrorism strategies
Organisations Involved
- Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) – Policy oversight
- National Security Guard (NSG) – Host & operational custodian
- National Bomb Data Centre (NBDC), NSG – Technical & forensic backbone
User Agencies
- State Police Forces
- Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs)
- National Investigation Agency (NIA)
- Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS)
Key Features of NIDMS

- Covers every IED and bomb blast since 1999
Two-way data window:
- Upload new cases
- Retrieve historical data instantly
Signature linking:
- Connects incidents using:
- Location
- Device type
- Circuit and timer
- Explosive material used
AI-enabled analytics:
- Identifies modus operandi trends
- Enables predictive threat mapping
Inter-operability with national databases:
- CCTNS
- ICJS-2

Why NIDMS is Significant
- Faster investigations:
- Eliminates fragmented, silo-based case records
- Improved inter-agency coordination:
- “Right information, at the right time, at the right place”
- Stronger prosecutions:
- Pattern recognition strengthens court-ready terror cases
- AI-driven security:
- Supports proactive and predictive counter-terror responses
- National security milestone:
- Integrates decades of scattered IED data into a unified platform
Broader Security Context
- Over the years, the Ministry of Home Affairs generated vast IED-related data, but it remained siloed.
- NIDMS connects these datasets into an advanced AI-based analytical ecosystem.
- The platform strengthens India’s preparedness against:
- Terrorist bombings
- IED-based insurgency
- Hybrid and asymmetric threats
