The Ministry of Women and Child Development launched the 8th edition of Poshan Pakhwada 2026, under Mission Poshan 2.0, marking a nationwide campaign running from April 9 to April 23, 2026. It aims to further strengthen awareness and collective action towards improved nutrition, early childhood development, and better outcomes for children
Highlights of Poshan Pakhwada 2026
Theme: “Maximising Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life”
- It recognises that early childhood, particularly the first 1,000 days is critical for brain development, physical growth, and overall well-being.
- Scientific evidence indicates that over 85% of brain development occurs by age 6, underscoring the importance of optimal nutrition, responsive caregiving, and early learning.
Five Focus Areas of Poshan Pakhwada 2026
- Maternal and Child Nutrition: optimal nutrition during pregnancy, exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding
- Early Stimulation for Brain Development (0–3 years): responsive caregiving and early learning interactions
- Play-Based Education (3–6 years): holistic development and school readiness
- Minimising Screen Time: promoting healthy habits and active engagement by parents and communities
- Strengthening Anganwadi Centres: through Jan Bhagidari and CSR contributions
- Implementation: Activities conducted through Anganwadi Centres nationwide including awareness sessions, home visits, Poshan Melas, counselling and play-based learning demonstrations. Key mobilisers include Anganwadi Workers, ASHAs, ANMs, SHGs, teachers and Panchayati Raj Institutions.
- Poshan Abhiyaan- Progress Since 2018: Launched in 2018, this Jan Andolan has led to over 150 crore sensitisation activities and more than 8 crore community-based events across India.
