Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to introduce a new digital platform called E-PRAAPTI (EPF Aadhaar-Based Access Portal for Tracking Inoperative Accounts) to address the long-standing issue of unclaimed and inactive provident fund accounts. This initiative aims to simplify the process of identifying and activating dormant accounts by enabling secure digital access and reducing dependency on manual procedures.
About E-PRAAPTI Portal
E-PRAAPTI is a dedicated digital system that facilitates identification, tracking, updating, and activation of inoperative EPF accounts. It allows users to authenticate themselves through Aadhaar and initiate the process of linking their accounts with a UAN for seamless future access.
Key Features
- Users: The portal is specifically designed to help members access old EPF accounts using Aadhaar-based authentication, particularly benefiting those who do not have a Universal Account Number and whose accounts were maintained in physical form.
- Aadhaar-Based Authentication: Provides a secure mechanism for users to access their old EPF accounts using Aadhaar credentials.
- Phased Implementation:
- Phase 1: Access through Member ID-based tracking.
- Phase 2: Expanded functionality for users who cannot recall or access their Member IDs.
- Profile Updating Facility: Enables users to update their personal details digitally and proceed with UAN linking and account activation.
- Reduced Manual Intervention: Minimizes paperwork, eliminates the need for employer involvement, and reduces visits to EPFO offices.
- System Migration: The existing EPFO portal will undergo a short 1–2 day migration period to enable integration of the new system.
Significance
- Addresses the issue of approximately 31.83 lakh inoperative EPF accounts, some inactive for over two decades.
- Particularly useful for individuals who retired after 55 years of age or whose accounts became inactive after three years without contributions.
- Enhances transparency, efficiency, and ease of access through digital and Aadhaar-enabled processes.
- Builds on EPFO’s improved service delivery, including the settlement of 8.31 crore claims in FY26, by promoting automated and streamlined operations.
