Bhopal RPO: India’s First Braille, Sign Language Passport Services

Bhopal’s Regional Passport Office has introduced India’s First-of-its-kind inclusive passport service initiative featuring Braille-enabled resources and sign language support, aimed at improving accessibility for visually impaired and hearing/speech-impaired applicants.

This step marks a significant move towards inclusive governance and citizen-centric service delivery in India’s passport system. It Focuses on accessible services for differently-abled citizens and combines Braille communication and sign language digital support.

Braille-Based Accessibility Measures

Special Braille Booklets introduced covering:

  • Application process (step-by-step)
  • ECR & Non-ECR categories
  • Types of applications: Normal & Tatkal
  • Document advisory and required documents
  • Important do’s and don’ts

Braille Signage Plates installed within office premises:

  • Helps visually impaired applicants navigate independently
Sign Language Digital Support
  • Launch of sign language video series for hearing/speech-impaired applicants
  • Covers complete passport process:

    • Step-wise process at:
      • Counter A– Biometric enrolment
