CCEA Approves 4 Major National Highway Projects

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved four national highway projects across Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, and Odisha, with a total investment of over ₹24,249 crore.

These projects will cover 700+ km and aim to enhance regional connectivity, reduce congestion, cut travel time, and strengthen logistics under the PM Gati Shakti framework.

Madhya Pradesh Project
  • Corridor: NH-347B (Hiwarkhedi–Roshni–Ashapur–Rudhy + Deshgaon–Julwaniya)

  • Cost: ₹4,415.60 crore
  • Mode: Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM)

Key Features

  • Upgradation to 2-lane paved shoulder + 4-lane widening
  • Covers districts: Betul, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani
  • Addresses: Sharp curves, Geometric deficiencies, Urban congestion
  • Includes 16.20 km greenfield bypass (Khargone)

Connectivity Impact

  • Links: 6 economic nodes, 5 logistics nodes, 5 social nodes
  • Includes textile clusters, mega food parks, thermal plants, airports, railway stations

Telangana Project

  • Corridors: NH-63 (Armoor–Jagtial–Mancherial) and NH-563 (Jagtial–Karimnagar)
  • Length: 190.76 km
  • Cost: ₹7,597.16 crore
  • Mode: HAM + BOT (Toll)

Key Features

  • Designed for 100 km/h speed
  • Bypasses for urban centres:
    • Armoor, Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet, Mancherial, Karimnagar

Travel Time Reduction

  • Armoor to Mancherial: reduced 1 hr 30 min
  • Jagtial to Karimnagar: reduced 45 min

Connectivity Impact

  • Connects: 5 economic nodes, 7 social nodes, 10 logistics nodes
Bihar Project
  • Corridor: NH-31 & NH-231 (Khagaria–Purnea)
  • Length: 143.53 km
  • Cost: ₹3,936.05 crore
  • Mode: BOT (Toll)

Key Features

  • Upgradation to 4-lane highway
  • Covers districts: Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnia
  • Includes 6.73 km greenfield bypass (Purnea)

Benefits

  • Travel time reduction: ~2 hours
  • Improves: Road safety, Fuel efficiency and Vehicle operating costs

  • Links: 5 economic nodes and 11 logistics nodes (railways, airports, highways)
Odisha Project
  • Corridor: Rameshwar–Paradeep Coastal Highway
  • Length: 160.18 km
  • Cost: ₹8,300.79 crore
  • Mode: Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM)

Key Features

  • Passes through: Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur
  • Structure:
    • 4-lane (Rameshwar–Konark)
    • 2-lane paved shoulder (Konark–Paradeep)

  • Improves coastal connectivity
