Historical Background: Kargil War (1999)

The Kargil War was fought between India and Pakistan during the summer of 1999 in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The conflict began after infiltrators from Pakistan-occupied territory occupied strategic positions on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC).

India launched Operation Vijay to evict the infiltrators and recapture the occupied positions. After intense military operations in the difficult Himalayan terrain, the Indian Armed Forces successfully regained control of the strategic heights, leading to a decisive victory.

The conflict is remembered as a symbol of courage, discipline, determination, and unwavering patriotism.
