ICMR to Establish India’s First Centre for High-Altitude Medicine

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is establishing India’s first dedicated Centre for High-Altitude Medicine and Public Health Research at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district, Himachal Pradesh. The initiative will upgrade the existing ICMR field station into a multidisciplinary research hub dedicated to high-altitude medicine, climate-resilient healthcare, and biomedical research for India’s Himalayan region.

The initiative supports the Government of India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by strengthening indigenous biomedical research and promoting inclusive, climate-resilient healthcare.
