Karnataka Government is set to establish India’s first government-driven Artificial Intelligence (AI) University. The announcement was made by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar while inaugurating Google Connect India 2026 in Bengaluru. Along with the university, the state will establish an AI Hub as an incubation centre to promote AI research and development by startups, companies, and other stakeholders. The initiative is aimed at positioning Karnataka as a global leader in responsible Artificial Intelligence innovation.
Karnataka’s AI University
The proposed AI University will be India’s first government-driven university dedicated to Artificial Intelligence. It will focus on developing world-class AI talent, advancing cutting-edge research, and fostering collaboration among academia, industry, startups, and government.
The university will support Karnataka’s vision of becoming an AI-native state, where Artificial Intelligence is used responsibly to improve governance and enhance citizens’ everyday lives.
