Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled ‘Mayur’, the official mascot of 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis (TT) Championship, in New Delhi. The mascot symbolizes India’s cultural heritage and the spirit of international sportsmanship. During the event, the CM reiterated the Delhi Government’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure, enhancing funding, improving coaching facilities, and creating greater opportunities for athletes.
Mascot – ‘Mayur’
The official mascot, ‘Mayur’, is inspired by India’s National Bird – the Peacock.
Symbolism: ‘Mayur’ represents- Enthusiasm, Energy, Positivity, Vibrancy.
Design Features
- The peacock’s feathers incorporate the national flags of all participating countries.
- The design symbolizes:
- Unity among Commonwealth nations.
- International friendship.
- Inclusive participation.
- Sportsmanship.
It also reflects the Indian philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The World is One Family).
Why Peacock?
- National Bird of India: Indian Peacock (Pavo cristatus).
