Mizoram Green Schools League Launched

Mizoram Green Schools League is a statewide school cleanliness competition launched in Mizoram to encourage students to develop strong habits of hygiene, cleanliness and environmental responsibility.

The initiative seeks to make cleanliness a part of students’ everyday lives so that these habits continue into adulthood. It also aims to encourage children to become active leaders in keeping their schools, homes and communities clean.

Organised Under Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0

The competition is being jointly organised by Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Department and  School Education Department under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0.

Schools will compete progressively at three levels:

  • Block level
  • District level
  • State level

Cash prizes are provided at different stages, beginning with block-level competitions and extending to the district and state levels.

State-Level Prizes

PositionPrize Money
First Prize₹1,00,000
Second Prize₹70,000
Third Prize₹50,000

Additional cash prizes are also awarded at the district level, following the block-level competitions.

Significance of Initiative

The league is not simply a competition based on cleanliness or cash rewards. Its broader purpose is to build a lasting mindset among schoolchildren that values hygiene and a clean environment.

It emphasises that maintaining a healthy and clean environment for future generations is a collective responsibility, with both children and adults having important roles to play.

By developing these habits early, the initiative hopes to create a generation that naturally incorporates cleanliness into daily routines and contributes to cleaner schools, homes and communities.
