National Fish Farmers’ Day 2026: 10 July

National Fish Farmers’ Day is observed every year on 10 July to honour the contribution of fish farmers, fisherfolk, aquapreneurs, and other stakeholders in strengthening India’s fisheries sector. The day is also celebrated as the Foundation Day of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB).

National Fish Farmers’ Day commemorates the successful induced breeding of Indian major carps achieved on 10 July 1957 at Angul, Odisha by:

This breakthrough transformed Indian aquaculture from traditional practices to modern intensive aquaculture, laying the foundation for the country’s fisheries revolution.
