Record 55,200+ Startups Recognised in FY 2025-26

Government recognised over 55,200 startups in FY 2025-26, the highest number in a single year since launch of Startup India on 16th January 2016. This represents a 51.6% year-on-year growth over FY 2024-25 (36,400+ startups). Direct jobs created by recognised startups rose by 36.1% YoY from 3,66,870+ in FY 2024-25 to 4,99,400+ in FY 2025-26.

Cumulative Achievement (as on 31st March 2026)
  • Total recognised startups: Over 23 lakh
  • Direct jobs generated: More than 36 lakh
  • Startups with at least one woman director/partner: Over 07 lakh (~48% of total)
  • Startups now present across all States and Union Territories

  1. Maharashtra leads with 38,660+ startups
  2. Karnataka (22,600+)
  3. Uttar Pradesh (21,960+)
  4. Delhi (21,120+)
  5. Gujarat (19,270+)

Other notable states include Tamil Nadu (14,830+), Telangana (12,520+), Haryana (11,620+), Kerala (8,620+), and Rajasthan (8,100+).

Patent Filings & GeM Participation
  • Patent Applications by startups: Grew from 2,850+ (FY 2024-25) to 4,480+ (FY 2025-26), with total filings crossing 19,400+.
  • Government e-Marketplace (GeM): Over 38,600 startups have been onboarded on it. Orders placed to startups on GeM grew from ₹14,103+ crore to ₹19,190+ crore in FY 2025-26, with 1,40,260+ orders placed.
