Union Minister for Railways and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw announced plans to develop Hyderabad as a major high-speed rail hub, with proposed bullet train corridors connecting the city to Pune, Chennai, and Bengaluru. The proposed network aims to significantly reduce travel time, improve regional connectivity, and integrate the economies of South India’s major growth centres.
Telangana has also received a record railway budget allocation of ₹5,454 crore for FY 2026–27, reflecting the Centre’s focus on strengthening railway infrastructure in the state.
Telangana as a High-Speed Rail Hub
Proposed Bullet Train Corridors
Hyderabad is proposed to be connected through three high-speed rail corridors:
- Hyderabad – Chennai
- Hyderabad – Bengaluru
- Pune – Hyderabad
These corridors are expected to:
- Reduce travel time significantly.
- Improve connectivity between major economic centres.
- Integrate regional economies across southern and western India.
- Promote industrial and economic development in Telangana and neighbouring states.
Record Railway Budget Allocation
- Railway Budget Allocation (FY 2026–27): ₹5,454 crore for Telangana.
- Union Minister highlighted that:
- During the UPA Government, the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh received only about ₹880 crore for railway projects.
- The present allocation reflects a significant increase in investment in railway infrastructure.
Bullet Train Development
- The Centre has earmarked ₹5 trillion for bullet train projects across the country.
- Telangana is expected to become one of the major beneficiaries under this initiative.
Railway Infrastructure Modernisation
- 42 railway stations in Telangana are being modernized.
- Major stations include: Nampally, Secunderabad
- The modernization aims to improve passenger amenities, operational efficiency, and overall railway infrastructure.
Electronics & Semiconductor Ecosystem
Electronics Manufacturing
- Telangana now hosts more than 100 electronics manufacturing companies.
- The state has emerged as an important electronics manufacturing hub in India.
Semiconductor Ecosystem
- Semiconductor design tools have been introduced in 315 universities across the country.
- The initiative aims to:
- Build a strong domestic semiconductor ecosystem.
- Develop skilled manpower for the chip design industry.
- India has adopted an AI-as-a-Service model. Telangana is playing a significant role in supporting this emerging digital ecosystem.
Regional Development
- The Union Minister encouraged the IT industry to expand operations beyond Hyderabad into Tier-2 cities, including: Warangal and Karimnagar
- The objective is to promote balanced regional development and contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
